Scott Model A457 Custom
The original Scott Model A457 is highly regarded in Hi-Fi nut circles. Jesus Agnew was never very impressed by his original Scott A457, so he decided to look into the situation. He realised, that the power amplifier in this unit is indeed a very good design, but unfortunately the same can not be said about the preamplifier section. So Jesus grabbed his screwdriver and proceeded with a preamp-ectomy. This means, that he entirely removed the preamplifier, modified the power supply, and designed his own biasing circuit for the driver stage. Following these modifications, this amplifier was thoroughly tested and it was confirmed that it now greatly outperforms the original. So, we installed it in the main mastering room, driving the Magnetovolt modular monitoring system, which sounds pretty good indeed.
We are still searching for the ideal amplifier or a combination of amplifiers to drive our monitoring system, at least until Magnetovolt decides to come up with their own design. Until then, the Scott is a keeper.
