Tascam DA3000
Have you ever heard of the expression "like a fly in milk"? You might wonder, how this digital piece of equipment ended up in the Magnetic Fidelity mastering studio. Well, to be honest, it was quite a fight between management and chief engineer Jesus Agnew, who did not want anything to do with digital audio. Eventually he gave in and we selected the Tascam DA3000 as our translator for the world of 0 and 1. Essentially, the management argued, that there is no point in cutting out people with existing digital recordings and that we should take this step to enable them to use our mastering service. Also, in this modern world, many people insist on wanting to listen to 0 and 1 instead of music, so it would be useful to have a machine, that would translate our curvy analog waveforms into 0 and 1 due to high demand.
The Tascam DA3000 works with high quality Burr-Brown converters, able to handle PCM at up to 192 kHz/24 bits and DSD at up to 5.6 MHz. The clock is pretty stable and the overall design gives good enough sound for digital. So, there you go, you can now have your cake and eat it too.
Not only can you enjoy fantastic analog audio at Magnetic Fidelity, but you could also bring in digital recordings and also digitise your analog master tape, to take a digital copy home.
